The high end resort of Seminyak is on the south west coast of Bali and along with the neighbouring resorts of Kuta and Legion forms the largest developed section of Balis coastline. The Beach is wide and is pounded by Bali's famous surf. As a result swimming or sunbathing is best done around your hotel swimming pool.
For most of your time you could be forgiven for thinking that you are no longer in Bali. The majority of the tourists come from Australia and many of the shops, galleries and restaurants seem to think they are in Australia as well. Im not saying there is anything wrong with Australia, but this is Bali and Seminyak is devoid of the spirit or culture one would expect.
There are no significant temples or cultural centres in Seminyak although it is possible to travel easily to nearby famous sea temples. Instead there are a number of boutique style clothing shops, art galleries, glitzy nightclub bars, luxury hotels and upscale restaurants (most of whom serve heavily westernised cuisine at western prices).
What Seminyak does have that is difficult to beat is truly amazing sunsets. Come sunset time nearly every beach bar is crowded with tourists, cocktail in one hand camera in the other. Although I did not like the resort area, the Samaya Bali hotel is one of the finest hotel properties I have ever stayed in. The breeze restaurant at this hotel is also one of the finest hotel restaurants that I have eaten in. The Nasi Campur and seafood Laksa come highly recommended.
